What is the best f-stop for indoor photography?

The aperture not only controls how much light is let through but also controls your depth of field, or how much of a scene is in focus. My go to aperture is between f8-f11. This will ensure that most of the image is in focus and there are no issues with diffraction which come with smaller apertures.
