A 70–300mm lens could be a versatile lens for wildlife photography. I usually use a 200–500mm lens, paired with a 1.4x teleconverter, for bird photography. But a more compact and lighter 70–300mm lens would useful for larger animals or small animals nearby (just like Andy states).
