The first photograph ever, taken by Nicéphore Niépce in 1826 from his window in France, required an agonizing eight-hour exposure. His partner Louis Daguerre refined the chemistry and in 1839 introduced the daguerreotype, with an exposure time of 15 minutes. The subjects had to stay still so the picture wouldn't blur.
