I usually use f/11 to make sure I have enough depth of field. I might use f/8 or f/5.6 if everything is really far away, and I think my lens will be sharper at one of those wider apertures. If the scene has some depth to it – enough depth to require focusing precisely, as described at length above – then I'll use f/16.
