RF 100-500 works well for outdoor sports, such as baseball. Especially during the day, but on modern cameras it's not a problem to use it during night games, either. For indoor sports, I would use a 70-200/2.8. Even putting aside the speed, I honestly don't think it makes a lot of sense to use 500mm indoors.
