Use pencil for labeling: Pencil lead #1 or #2 is the museum gold standard for labeling anything on paper, because it is soft and erasable. Don't press too hard, because it will leave a depression on the reverse side. If the photograph is glossy or slick, we recommend a Stabilo-brand pencil, which is darker and softer.
