What is the best focus for landscape photography?

Focusing about 1/3 of the way into the scene while using a reasonable aperture such as f/8 or f/11 and a “wide-ish” focal length like 20–28mm will do a good job of estimating the hyperfocal distance such that you'll have most objects in the foreground and very distant objects like mountains in “acceptable” focus.
